Call for Editor-in-Chief for Osteoarthritis and Cartilage

The Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) is conducting a search for Editor-in-Chief for the journal Osteoarthritis and Cartilage.

The mission of the Editor-in-Chief is to ensure the scientific excellence of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage as the premier multidisciplinary journal in cartilage biology and osteoarthritis and as the official journal of OARSI.  The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and efficiency of all peer-review processes.  The Editor-in-Chief coordinates reviews with the deputy and associate editors and makes final decisions on manuscript publication. 

Applicants for Editor-in-Chief should have a breadth of knowledge that crosses disciplines of osteoarthritis and cartilage research with a strong record of important publications and contributions to knowledge in osteoarthritis and cartilage research on the international stage. In addition, applicants should have evidence to support excellence in leadership, innovative thinking, program management, and interpersonal skills.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible to the OARSI Publications Committee and OARSI Board of Directors, and is an ex officio member of each of these groups.  

The term of the new Editor-in-Chief will begin on July 1, 2016 and will extend for 5 years.  Beginning on Jan 1, 2016 this term will overlap with the current Editor-in-Chief to ensure a smooth transition.  A stipend and expenses are provided to the Editor-in-Chief by OARSI.

 

Applications will be accepted through November 15, 2014 and should include:

1) Summary of philosophy concerning Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, its editorship, your vision for the next 5 years.

2) Names and titles of proposed candidates for

Deputy Editor, Basic Research
Deputy Editor, Clinical Research
Consultant Biostatistician

3) Description of prior editorial experience

4) Names of proposed candidates for 7-10 Associate Editors, representing key areas in osteoarthritis and cartilage research

5) CV 

6) Final applicants will be interviewed by the OARSI Board of Directors in April, 2015 in Seattle at the OARSI Congress.

About the Journal:   Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is an international, fully peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal.  The primary objective of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is to foster the cross-fertilization of findings from the clinical and basic sciences in all fields of research of relevance to osteoarthritis and cartilage, originating from any of several disciplines including biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology, epidemiology, clinical pharmacology, and specialties including rheumatology, orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and physical therapy.   The journal is published monthly by Elsevier Ltd. and all articles are published simultaneously in print and electronic format via Science Direct.  The journal is abstracted and indexed by ISI/Current Contents, Index Medicus, Medline, PubMed and EMBASE/Excerpta Medica.  The 2012 impact factor is 4.262 and OAC ranks 2/65 in Orthopedics and 6/29 in Rheumatology.
