OARSI Mission
OARSI is the premier international organization for scientists and health care professionals focused on the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis through the promotion and presentation of research, education and the world-wide dissemination of new knowledge.
With more than 900 individual and 11 corporate members, OARSI has participants from more than 50 countries.
OARSI Strategic Goals
- To increase OARSI visibility through member involvement, a new Young Investigator Sub Committee has been formed whose mission is to increase student and young investigator interest and participation in OARSI. This will foster new and strengthen existing research efforts, collaborations and mentorship opportunities.
- To develop strategic alliances.
- To provide quality educational opportunities and disseminate research.
- To establish standards and tools for health care and research in OA.
OARSI Endorsed Projects
- FDA OARSI Initiative for Clinical Trial Development – We have convened a group of stakeholders to work on this important two--year project for the FDA
- Clinical trial design and outcomes for hand OA
- Development of criteria for the designation of an agent as a DMOAD.
- Standardized histopathological assessment of cartilage and bone in animal models of OA
- Ultrasound study group
- New Biomarkers initiative with NIAMS, NIH, Arthritis Foundation and Canadian Arthrtitis Network.
- New Imaging Workgroup to develop evidence-based recommendations for diagnosis of knee OA on MRI using a systematic review of research evidence and expert consensus.
The results of these new initiatives support primary care physicians and specialists in the treatment of patients with OA.
