Call for Editor-in-Chief Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Journal

 

The Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) is conducting a search for Editor-in-Chief for the journal Osteoarthritis and Cartilage. 

The mission of the Editor-in-Chief is to ensure the scientific excellence of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage as the leading multidisciplinary journal in osteoarthritis, cartilage, and related areas of joint biology and one of the official journals of OARSI.  The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and efficiency of all peer-review processes.  The Editor-in-Chief makes final decisions on manuscript publication. 

Applicants for Editor-in-Chief should have a breadth of knowledge that crosses the science of osteoarthritis, cartilage or related areas of joint biology research. They should have a strong track record of important publications and contributions to knowledge in osteoarthritis or related areas of joint biology on the international stage. Candidates with editorial experience will be preferred. In addition, applicants should have evidence to support excellence in leadership, innovative thinking regarding journals, management expertise, and collaborative skills. 

The Editor-in-Chief reports to the OARSI Publications Committee and OARSI Board of Directors and is an ex officio member of each of these groups.

The term of the new Editor-in-Chief will begin on January 1, 2022, or as negotiated, and will be for 5 years.  It is expected that there will be a transition period of several months that will overlap with the current Editor-in-Chief. Stipend and expenses are provided to the Editor-in-Chief by OARSI. It is expected that the time commitment for this job will entail the equivalent of one full day per week (or 0.2 FTE). 

 

Applications should include: 

  1. Summary of your philosophy concerning Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, its editorship, and your vision for the next 5 years (2 pages maximum). Also describe how you will ensure editorial excellence  and what metrics you will use to assess journal performance.
  2. Proposed structure of editorial leadership, with suggestions of potential candidate names for key positions. This could include a proposal to have two co-Editors-in-chief. Some consideration should be given to the diversity of the composition of leadership with respect to age, sex, geographic region, and area of expertise.
  3. Description of prior editorial experience
  4. 3-5 page biosketch that outlines your training background, relevant experiences and positions, and key publications.  

 

Short listed applicants will be interviewed by the OARSI Board of Directors in mid 2021.

About the Journal:   Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is an international, fully peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal.  The primary objective of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage is to foster the cross-fertilization of findings from fundamental, clinical, and translational sciences in all fields of research of relevance to osteoarthritis, cartilage, and related areas of joint biology.   The journal is abstracted and indexed by ISI/Current Contents, Index Medicus, Medline, PubMed and EMBASE/Excerpta Medica.  The 2019 impact factor of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage was 4.79.
