What do I need to know before I attend my first congress?

Back to FAQ's

What to wear: typically business or smart casual attire but in some cases business casual is acceptable
What do I do if I have a question during a talk? During most sessions, the moderators will allow time for questions at the end of each talk. Typically, there will be microphones in the room so at the end of the talk, you can step up to one of the microphones and ask your question once the moderator indicates that it is your turn. It’s best practice to state your name and affiliation (University, etc.) to introduce yourself before asking a question
Other tips: Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to new people and ask lots of questions. Everyone will receive a nametag in their registration bag and first time attendees will receive a pink ribbon on their nametag so other attendees can reach out to them. The opening reception, poster sessions, and coffee breaks can be good times to meet people in a casual setting and small groups. Poster presenters are encouraged to stand at their posters during pre-specified sessions (check the program for days and times); this can be a good time to ask questions in a less formal setting and to meet researchers working in your area.
